First Choice for Rochester and Strood

Conservatives in the
Rochester and Strood Constituency
have selected Mark Reckless to stand
as the Conservative Candidate for
Parliament (PPC) at the next general
election.

Around 130 candidates competed with Mark
to be selected. He was chosen after an
exhaustive - and at times exhausting - series
of interviews by local party members.

People locally will know of Mark from his
having stood as our Parliamentary
Candidate in the current 'Medway' seat.
In that role he achieved one of the largest swings in votes to the Conservatives, and at one point  Bob Marshall-Andrews, the Labour Member of Parliament, mistakenly conceded defeat. Bob has since announced that he is standing down and will not fight the next election. Reacting to the news, Mark Reckless said:

"I would like to thank Bob Marshall-Andrews for his service to Medway. He put his principles before promotion and teamed up with Conservatives like David Davis to defend British freedoms, such as trial by jury. I intend to follow him in providing a principled - and where necessary independent - voice for the people of Rochester and Strood."

Mark's professional background is as an economist, although he recently also qualified as a barrister. He is a Medway Councillor for Rochester West Ward, where he lives on Rochester High Street, having previously lived in the village of Upnor.

Giving taxpayers better value for money will be Mark's priority if elected as our MP. For too long taxes have gone up and up, but we have not seen the improvement in public services, not least because so much of our money in Medway has been siphoned off to Scotland and Wales, and to Labour's friends in the North.

Mark is determined to find savings and get a fair deal for Medway.
